The International 2018: TnC Predator

For the first time since the team's formation in 2016, TNC Predator field an all-Filipino squad. For the last two years, they’ve heavily leaned on foreign players Jimmy "DeMoN" Ho and Sivatheeban "1437" Sivanathapillai  to captain their squad. With Raven continuing being a beast in the safelane, the question when looking at their roster is: how well can Armel do? Armel is a well-respected player in the region who had several offers but decided to join TNC. There’s no way of saying what swayed him TNC’s way but being able to defend his countries colours must have had some effect. Armel’s performance will be key if TNC wants to reach the heights they formerly have.

TNC’s impact this season has been limited to say the least. Fnatic and Mineski have been the big boys of SEA and TNC found themselves fighting for the scraps left behind. A 2nd place at the MDL minor and a surprising 4th place at DAC are their only DPC results worth talking about. Every other event has placed them in the middle of the pack, and that’s where they currently belong. Wins against VP, LGD, Liquid, and Optic does bring a little bit of hope to fans, though. For the last two years, a foreign captain seemed like TNC’s recipe for success. It was therefore very surprising when they decided to replace 1437 on their roster mid-season. The team hadn’t shown the results expected from them but replacing the captain was an unexpected move. The role of captain was instead placed on Kuku, a player that hadn’t captained before. After some initial success, the team fell back into old habits. The move that could have defined their season for the better ended up not changing much. TNC aren’t expecting a win in Vancouver. It’s simply not a realistic goal for them. While they’ve beaten some of the top teams this season, it has been at times where their opponents have either been exhausted or in a slump. For TNC a “win” would be top 8. That would show that they’re moving in the right direction.
